Scott M. Mitnick is a Partner at Liss, Shapero & Mitnick. He is currently licensed to practice law in Michigan, Illinois, and the US District Courts for the Eastern District of Michigan and Western District of Michigan. Scott was born in Detroit, Michigan and has been a lifelong Michigan resident.
Scott’s legal career began as a teenager, where after school he worked as a file clerk at the 48th District Court. After high school, Scott attended the James Madison College at Michigan State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Relations with a specialization in Criminal Justice. At Michigan State Scott was selected to Phi Beta Kappa and the Dean's Honor List. During his undergraduate years Scott clerked both at a Lansing-based law firm, which represents over four hundred public school boards for various legal matters, and a Farmington Hills-based law firm that specialized in family law, collections, and personal injury.
After completing his undergraduate degree, Scott attended the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. In 2005, while in law school, Scott was an active member of the U of D Moot Court Board of Advocates. During law school he interned for the Honorable Avern Cohn, US Federal Court Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan, and then worked as a law clerk at Liss, Shapero & Mitnick beginning in 2005.
Upon passing the Michigan Bar Exam in 2007, he was hired as an associate attorney at Liss, Shapero & Mitnick. Scott also passed the Illinois Bar Exam in 2008. Scott's practice focuses on civil litigation issues including auto negligence, insurance litigation, premise liability, Social Security Disability, and other aspects of personal injury law. He has extensive experience with trials, depositions, Social Security Disability hearings, motion practice, legal writing, and appellate writing.
At home, Scott is outnumbered by a fantastic wife and two amazing daughters. He also has a dog named Macho Man Mitnick. On fall Saturdays you can find Scott tailgating and rooting for (or complaining about) his beloved Spartans. He is a masterful cook, joke teller, and fantasy football player. He has attended more concerts than he can remember, with highlights including Phish, almost all of Jack White’s projects, and the Rolling Stones (where he was on the field for Superbowl XL’s pregame and halftime show… even making a very brief TV appearance!).

Depends on the mood, court, opposing counsel and issue to be argued. Sometimes the mood calls for rock music, i.e. The White Stripes, The Black Keys, Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Guns n Roses, The Rolling Stones, etc... Sometimes ‘90s and 2000’s hip-hop i.e., Notorious BIG, Eazy-E, Lil Wayne, Outkast, the Roots. And if the situation calls for more calming music - The Grateful Dead.

It's hard to pick just one...
“Pride comes before the fall.”
“Desperation is a stinky cologne.”
“Sh** in one hand, wish in the other, and see which one fills up first.”
